The Call of the Master
First Step
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
Let's start with another scripture and later on we'll look at the above scripture in detail. We'll begin with 1 Peter 5:10
"But may the God all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you."
Perfect: to complete what is lacking, make fully ready Romans 8:18 - ff
Establish: to make firm, secure Col. 2:7
Strengthen: to make strong, to be mighty, supernatural power Col 1:11
Settle: not moved from the hope, rooted, grounded Eph. 3:17; Col. 1:27
Psalms 102:13, 16-17,28 This is Psalm of the Lord's eternal love. It is also a prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his heart before the Lord. Which leads us to the call of the Master to Come. Matthew 11:28-30
Rest: everlasting, eternal, unhindered duration John 6:35-37
Gentle: meek Learn from Me: Phil. 2:5:ff
Lowly of heart: Humble, Lowly is position and power Zach 9:9 Men looked for a conquering King yet, He rose from the dead!
Easy: useful, pleasant, good Legalistic religious system was a burden.
Jesus' s call is built on a personal relationship.
Each person must seek out a personal relationship with Him. Transformation of our hardened hearts of rebellion to soft hearts comes by Godly transformation not by self-effort. Ezekiel 36:25-26
Step one of inward renewal for restoration Hebrews 10:22; Psalm51:7
Second Step
New heart will be pliable and teachable
New spirit is transformation of the will and spirit
Jeremiah 31:31-34
Psalm 51:10-11 (prayer)
