__________

Woodpecker branchI have before you this morning, boys and girls, a very special part of a log. As you can see, it is just full of holes. I wonder how these holes got there. Any ideas? Well, if you guessed perchance that it was a woodpecker who made these holes, you are absolutely correct. Now, look very closely and you will see that in some of these holes there are some acorns. Do you see?

I am told that the woodpecker makes the holes and then he looks for these little acorns. Some of the acorns have little worms in them. Then he places them very carefully in the limb full of holes. Consequently he has a pantry that is always ready and waiting just for him. A verse of scripture, boys and girls, comes from Matthew 6:20. "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal."

I would like to tell you of two things that you could put in your own little spiritual pantry. I can think of deeds. We need to do some good deeds, boys and girls, deeds of being kind, of loving one another. These are things that can be stored away and drawn upon later. I think of storing up good verses of scripture, verses that help you when you are worried, lonely or afraid. There are verses like, "I will never leave you", said Jesus. Jesus also said, "Love one another as I have loved you." Or maybe if you feel you have no friends, Jesus is one who stays closer than a brother.

One of the wonderful things about our mind is that we can "store up" for ourselves in the days ahead that which can aid us.

On the other hand, as many of you boys and girls reach the age of accountability and accept Jesus as your personal savior, than you can put your "treasures" in heaven. There they will always be guarded by the angels in Heaven.

So, boys and girls, it is important to have a spiritual pantry in which you personally put items that can be called to your mind when needed. I hope you have an ever increasing pantry in your spiritual heart-house. Amen.
