Steps for Difficult Days by Nancy Carlson

These are daily "exercises" toward recovery when going through difficult days.

How many times have we been "up against" IT. No place to go. No one to turn to on the earthly plain. At our "wits end" We have been told when at the end of your rope, tie a prayer knot and "hang on". That is NOT the truth. When one is at the end of their rope, they are to "let go"……and let God.

There are many, many psychological methods to use when going through "the pits". Whether panic attacks or other wise there are methods which greatly help. For example: Recall and go to your "happy place"; count dots or something in the room - divert your attention in any way, music, TV, etc.

BUT most importantly, ask the Lord Jesus to come to your aid.

Suggestion:

Print out Psalm 91 found below and write in your name.
Slowly meditate on each of the verses.

Psalm 91

1 _(your name)_____________, who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 She/he will declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.

3 For he will rescue ___________from every trap and protect __________from deadly disease like ___________

4 He will cover ___________with his feathers. He will shelter ____________with his wings. His faithful promises are ______armor and protection.

5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.

6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.

7 Though a thousand fall at __________ side, though ten thousand are dying around her/him, these evils will not touch____________

8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.

9 If __________makes the LORD her/his refuge, if ___________makes the Most High her/his shelter,

10 no evil will conquer her/him; no plague will come near her/him home.

11 For he will order his angels to protect_______________ wherever she goes.

12 They will hold ____________ up with their hands so she/he won't even hurt his/her foot on a stone.

13 She/he will trample upon lions and cobras; She/he will crush fierce lions and serpents under her/his feet!

14 The LORD says, "I will rescue ____________who loves me. I will protect ___________ who trust in my name.

15 When ____________calls on me, I will answer; I will be with her/him in trouble. I will rescue and honor her/him.

16 I will reward ____________with a long life and give ____________my salvation."

As for as the following steps of recovery - - or better yet, "character building". or concerned, it has been found useful if one prints out the day and then using the space following the writing to write your thoughts. Yes, it is like writing your letter (heart) to God. Better still, ask for God thoughts. Write down what is coming to your mind. One would be surprised to find that the words ARE from the Lord to you, his dear friend. What is God saying to my heart.
