birdWalking in the Soles of His Feetbird

Joshua 10:5-27

What an interesting two weeks this has been. It started one morning when I awakened to the words - "soles of His feet". From that moment on He confirmed, opened up His Word to me and this study is the result of all that. He also called for a 10 day fast ending on the day we call "The Birth of Jesus".

Then an e-mail came from a dear Pastor with a word given by someone else for prayerful consideration. It was a prophetic dreams concerning Joshua 10.

The story in Joshua 10:10….So the Lord routed them before Israel…and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah…16 But these five kings had fled and hidden themselves in a cave at Makkedah (Makida) 24 When they brought those kings to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the neck of these king:. And they drew near and put their feet on their necks. 25 Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid nor be dismayed: be strong and of good courage\, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."

They knew the Lord was telling them that they had victory over the five kings or spirits that have been coming against them.

The Five Spirits are being exposed: We will discuss this later. The reality is that the Lord is asking us to remove the strongholds in our lives and walk in the freedom He has for us.

Jesus is waiting until all enemies are made His footstool. Let our faith arise to realize - the enemies that have been holding us back have been exposed! We have the victory in Christ over all these enemies. Let's put our feet on their necks!

Meaning of "feet on their necks"? To put their feet on their necks was an ancient custom for victorious Kings who put their feet on the necks of their enemies. This action exemplifies God's promise to "make your enemies your footstool."

Deuteronomy 11:24-25. Every place where you set your foot will be yours; Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea. No man will be able to stand against you. The Lord your God, as he promised you, will pout the terror and fear of you on the whole land wherever you go.

The word "tread" means a road or path one habitually treads. The Lord wants us to be victorious over all strongholds in our lives. Anything that is standing in the way of His glory being seen and our being all He created us to be for Him.

Who are our enemies? Why all the killing?

  1. God didn't want the people contaminated and polluted by idolatry and immorality.
  2. The military might of the Israeli army was the means God chose to "clean house" - the tribes would not turn back.

It is a lesson for us today. Many Christians are not enjoying the "Land of Spiritual Blessing" that God has given us in Christ (Ephesians 1:3) and are not effective in spiritual warfare because too many of the world's principles and practices still remain in our lives. (Ephesians 6:11-13)

All enemy activity in the book of Joshua represents some form of spiritual opposition in the life of the believer today, including our battles with the sins of the flesh. The strategy for spiritual warfare that seems to be illustrated here involves dealing effectively with the root sins in our hearts. As the five enemy armies had five kings backing them (even though the kings were hidden), so the open sins in our lives grow from the hidden root sins in our lives. Think of the open and obvious sins of jealousy, criticism of others, gossip and even revenge. The hidden "king in the cave" behind these open sins is the root sin of pride. Consider the many open sins of cheating in financial matters as another example. The hidden "king in the cave" behind these open sins is the root sin of the love of money. As 1 Timothy 6:10 says, the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

Pride and the love of money are only two of the many "hidden king sins" or root sins with which Christians must deal. The root sin of unbelief, for example, works itself out in many kinds of open sins, such as doubt and lack of faith. Maybe the most hidden root sin of all is the root sin of idolatry. We don't like to admit it, but when anything in our lives becomes more precious or important than God, the root sin of idolatry lies hidden in our hearts.

Christians must deal with root sins in the proper way before the Lord. Just as God called the five kings to be brought out into the open, so the Lord Jesus wants us to acknowledge and bring out the hidden sins of our hearts before Him.

Too often we're willing to curb the open or obvious sins but we are unwilling to bring the root sins of the heart before the Lord for elimination. We are content to live with "king sins" such as pride or love of money because our minds are held in bondage by this world's value and attitudes. WE then attempt to rationalize or excuse our sins.

The Biblical solution to the problem of all root sin is to get to the point in our Christian life where we are willing to let the Lord expose our hearts and deal with these sins. Let's not be so blinded by our Biblical knowledge and "righteous living" that we are unable to see the pride and other root sins which are hidden in the recesses of our hearts. We must acknowledge our hidden root sins and bring them to the Lord's attention. Allow Him to shine the light of His Word into the "inner recesses of our hearts, expose the root sins and clean them out. Can we make Psalm 139:23-24 our prayer?

How do we defeat them? Let go and let Him have His way. Come to the Lord with an eager willingness to be changed. Depend on Him with a child like trust. He is the Potter, we are the clay. This comes through repentance. In reality, we try to do it on our own and it won't work. True repentance is turning to God Himself to cleanse and restore. Submit to a true fast which is turning Him and allowing Him to change and restore us. As we offer up our short coming it helps if we will actually, as an act of our will, offer a fast to Him and ask for His grace to fulfill that fast.

Joshua 3:13, 4:18 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD - the Lord of all the earth - set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap." And the priests came up out of the river carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD. No sooner had they set their feet on the dry ground than the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and ran at flood stage as before.

The Presence of the Ark brought victory! This is why we need to cultivate a spirit of intimacy with God. We need to be in His Presence to overcome these strongholds. We lost that intimacy in the Garden and God is calling us to Him. He is also calling His Bride to show forth His love and power to a lost world.

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Isaiah 30:20-21 Although the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, "This is the way; walk in it."

2 Corinthians 4:17 For our light momentary affliction (this slight distress of the passing hour) is ever more and more abundantly preparing and producing and achieving for us an everlasting weight of glory [beyond all measure, excessively surpassing all comparisons and all calculations, a vast and transcendent glory and blessedness never to cease!]

In the area when we are plagued by persistent problems - one that goes on and on - view it as a rich opportunity. The problem is like a tutor always by your side. Use that which comers against you as an eagle users the fierce storm to soar to the sky.,

Become "more than a conqueror" turning storm clouds into chariots of victory. Conquer your enemy with a thankful attitude that will lift you up into the Heavenly Realm. This temporary distress is producing a transcendent glory never to cease.

Come to a rest: 1 Kings 5:3-5 "You know that because of the wars waged against my father David from all sides, he could not build a temple for the Name of the Lord his God until the LORD put his enemies under his feet. But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side and there is no adversary or disaster. I intend, therefore, to build a temple for the Name of the LORD my God as the LORD told my father David, when he said, 'Your son whom I will pout on the throne in your place will build the temple for my Name.'"

They had rest on every side., We have that by replacing spiritual death with spiritual life. There will be no guilt or shame. We will be turning to hurting people with the accepting love of Jesus. We will learn what it means to turn to Him to wipe away every sin and receive refreshing of being in His Presence. Our temple will be for the glory of His name.

Isaiah 60:1 "Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the LORD rises upon you." Receive the healing, which comes from being in the Presence of God.

So, let's go for it remembering that God has made our enemies a footstool for His feet. Receive the restoration He has for us.HOW?

  1. Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Be willing.
  2. Ephesians 5:25-27.just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Allow yourself, His Bride to bring glory to Him by the washing with water through the Word.
  3. Titus 3:5-6 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior. Regeneration and cleansing to a new man acceptable by God is done by the Holy Spirit. During this time remember to give thanks in the midst of storm clouds turning them into chariots of victory.
  4. John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Remember, "Christ is our life" and He has come that we may have His life more abundantly - a life of His power and His mighty love.
  5. John 13:34-35 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Desire to know more of the fullness of His love and walk in it.
  6. Ephesians 4:13 "…until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Our maturity is an ongoing process and it is measured only in terms of "the stature of the fullness of Christ."

Good Scripture to Remember

Romans 16:20 "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you."

Romans 6:11-2,14 "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. For sin shall not be your master because you are not under law, but under grace."

Colossians 3:5 "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

1 Peter 2:24 "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness: by his wounds you have been healed."

Galatians 5:16 "Sop I say, live b y the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.;

Our Lives Should Be and Experience:

Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law but under grace."

Kim Clement prophesied the following on September 2, 2007

"I will shake the earth. The five powers that have tried to control My people are being shaken now says the Spirit of God. You may wonder what it is. I'm giving them to you. What the enemy stole at the turn of the century. Azusa, this they called the revival of the beginning of the last century. Now God says, A greater than Azusa revival, greater than any century has ever delivered because I am bringing downs the five powerful forces and they will never control My people again. I will come into your home over the seasons that they call My birthday, nevertheless, I will come into your house and what you have lost in 2007 I will give back to you in 2008 says the Spirit of the Living God.
