birdHis Goodness and Mercy All the Days of Our Livesbird

Psalm 23

THE LORD is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. 2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.

Micah 5:4
And He shall stand and feed His flock
In the strength of the LORD,
In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God;
And they shall abide,
For now He shall be great
To the ends of the earth;

3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him--not for my earning it, but] for His name's sake.

Luke 7:36-46

36 One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, and He went into the Pharisee's house and reclined at table.

37 And behold, a woman of the town who was an especially wicked sinner, when she learned that He was reclining at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment (perfume).

38 And standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with [her] tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet [affectionately] and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).

39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said to himself, If this Man were a prophet, He would surely know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him--for she is a notorious sinner (a social outcast, devoted to sin).

40 And Jesus, replying, said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Teacher, say it.

41 A certain lender of money [at interest] had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

42 When they had no means of paying, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?

43 Simon answered, The one, I take it, for whom he forgave and cancelled more. And Jesus said to him, You have decided correctly.

44 Then turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

45 You gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased [intermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly. 46 You did not anoint My head with [cheap, ordinary] oil, but she has anointed My feet with [costly, rare] perfume.

One who knows, realizes the depth of his own sin and the greatness of God's mercy must love as this woman did. Her love resulted from her forgiveness given her.

One of the ways our souls are restored is when we are required to look at our shortcomings. It brings life to us and a greater experiencing of His love for us.

4 Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.

It is difficult for those living in a temperate climate to appreciate, but it was customary in hot climates to anoint the body with oil to protect it from excessive perspiration. When mixed with perfume, the oil imparted a delightfully refreshing and invigorating sensation. Athletes anointed their bodies as a matter of course before running a race. As the body, therefore, anointed with oil was refreshed, invigorated, and better fitted for action, so the Lord would anoint His "sheep" with the Holy Spirit, Whom oil symbolizes, to fit them to engage more freely in His service and run in the way He directs--in heavenly fellowship with Him.

This fellowship (abiding) can't be stressed enough. It is what He longs for from His children.

6 Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place. When we make the Lord our dwelling place, trusting Him - taking our cares, fears and needs to seek His council, spending time of refreshing with Him and by loving Him and walking closely with Hiim through every day - we enter into a sheltered place of promises regarding health. (Psalm 103:3)

Ephesians 2 tells us - To satisfy the intense love with which He loved us, He gave us the very life of Christ. By grace we are saved through faith. We are His workmanship to do good works which He prepared in advance for us to do.

Through the sacrificial blood of Jesus, we have been brought near. We have been given free access to the Father bin though Holy Spirit. We have become a holy temple dedicated to God for His Glory! We've been bought with the precious blood of the Lamb. In Him, we live and move and have our being.

Expect Jesus' shepherding care. Know that He will keep you from want, protect you and restore you. We must actively, consciously trust that God's Word is true and that He always acts in accordance with it. Every situation we encounter is an opportunity to choose to trust God rather than our own inclinations. Faith involves an element of risk, but always yields the richest dividends.

When you believe God exists and that He loves you and wants to meet your need, then your believing creates faith in your heart. Doubt is just as real. It is the reverse of faith, It tells you God does not exist or that He doesn't care a about your needs. This doubt gives way to fear, which keeps you from receiving. Expect a miracle. If we doubt, we go without. If we believe, we receive. Expecting opens your life to God and puts you in a position to receive - everything good your heart longs for and more! Intimacy with God brings blessings. Remember, God becomes enthroned by the praises of His people. He is the power, ours is the privilege to respond!

I will sing unto the Lord
for He has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and rider thrown into the sea.

The Lord my God,
My strength and song
Is now become my victory.

The Lord is God
And I will praise Him,
My father's God, and I will exalt him.
The Lord is God
And I will praise Him,
My father's God, and I will exalt him.

It's a happy day
and I thank God for the weather
It's a happy, happy day
and I'm livin' it for my Lord

It's a happy day
and things are gonna get better
Cause I'm livin' each day with God's promises in my heart.
